| Fly in fishing trips to Monroe Lake
Outpost--Walleye and Northern Pike fishing 30
miles north of Red Lake, Ontario, Canada with Loon
Thank you for your interest in the only cabin on Monroe Lake. The Monroe Lake outpost is what most people imagine a fly-in outpost to be. The cabin sits on a small island with a commanding view of the lake. Fishermen annually share this special place with a pair of loons who also call it home. A pair of mergansers regularly nest under the picnic table platform as well. The lake water here is a clear greenish color and produces plentiful walleye and exceptional northern every year. We’re told that the lazy fisherman can catch many, many fish right off the dock as the bottom drops off quite steeply. Several years ago, 2 couples visited Monroe Lake. One evening, the guys ventured out by themselves and left the ladies at the cabin to fish off the dock. The women caught more fish than the men! Using lighted bobbers, they were able to fish well after dark with great success! Easily accessible are 2 portage lakes teeming with fish for the adventurous angler.
|The Monroe Lake cabin features both a
refrigerator with a freezer above and a chest type deep
freeze. The secret to having cold beer is to place
the beer in the chest freezer to get it good and cold
and then put it in the refrigerator. The
freezer above the refrigerator provides plenty of room
for frozen foods. We keep a good supply of ice in
the chest freezer to act as a heat sink so the freezer
doesn't get behind trying to cool the beer. Take
the beer to the ice. Don't take the ice to the
beer and you will have plenty of ice cold beer.
We built the cabin at Monroe Lake in 1984 to replace
an older cabin we had acquired there. (In fact -
all that remains of the old cabin is the floor that we
use today as a picnic table platform.) This cozy
cabin will sleep 6 and has hot and cold running
water. There is a walk-in pantry with ample
shelving for storage and a shower area with a wash
basin. Our fully equipped cabin has plenty of
cupboards and counter space. Propane appliances
include a stove, refrigerator, chest type
freezer. A gas barbecue is conveniently located
outside close to the picnic table. An outdoor
privy is located a short walk nearby. The cabin
is illuminated by solar powered electric lights
The Monroe Lake Outpost features the ever dependable Yamaha 6 Hp motors teamed with 14 foot Alumarine or Lund boats. Please note: You can be reassured that there is an emergency radio at this location and we make a weekly flight to check on your party.
All groceries for the entire week, Ontario fishing licence, fishing tackle, rain gear, sleeping bag, pillow case, dish towels, bath towels and personal needs.

Our Conservation Policy
Our pristine lakes have very limited fishing
pressure and it is our wish to preserve the
fantastic quality of this precious resource.
To this end we have adopted the following
fishing restrictions: no one is to harm in any
way a Walleye over 18 inches or a Northern
over 27 inches. These fish represent our
breeding stock and must immediately be
returned to the water after catching. Grab ONE
quick photo, but do not put the fish on a
stringer or delay its return to the water. We
encourage fishing barbless as it reduces the
mortality rate when catching and releasing
fish. It's possible to catch and release
hundreds of fish per day.
We invite you to eat your
fill of smaller fish but allow no take home
fish at all.
|How to make reservations||
Please contact us for
available dates. Tentative arrangements can be
made by phone but all firm reservations
require a deposit ($300 US per person) at the
time of reservation. Deposits are transferable
with 60 days notice, but not refundable.
Personal cheques are accepted for deposits
only. The balance must be paid in full with
traveler's cheques or cash before leaving
camp. Our location is such that we do not have
a large volume of traffic past our facilities.
We must depend on advance reservations. Once
we reserve a cabin, we remove it from the
market refusing all other requests. A booking
must be accompanied by a deposit within 2
weeks -- if not, the cabin is opened up to
other fishermen. Our policy is intended to be
fair to our guests, yet prevent the loss of
income to our business.
Make 2017 the year
for experiencing a fly-in fishing trip.
